January 1, 2024

Notion is a powerful productivity platform that allows users to create custom databases and templates to organize their work and personal tasks. One of the most useful features in Notion is the ability to create recurring tasks, which can help save time and ensure that important tasks don't get forgotten.

In this tutorial, we'll guide you through the process of creating a recurring task template in Notion and using it to automatically generate tasks on a regular basis.

You can also start from our Recurring Tasks Database Template and follow along with the tutorial.

How To Create Recurring Database Tasks In Notion

  1. Navigate to your Tasks database;
  2. Create a new database template with the blue 'New' button;
  3. Give it a name, an icon and anything else you want to populate with each template;
  4. Click out, then head back into the blue 'New' menu;
  5. Locate your new task template, then hit the three-dot menu beside it and select 'Repeat';
  6. You can then choose the details of how often you'd like template to be spawned, at what time and even on which days of the week;
  7. After you create the template, one more step! You need to actually create an item in your database with the template, so head into any empty item, then select the template button and let it spawn;
  8. Voila! Your task will now be automatically be created at the specified time on specified days.

Step 1: Navigate to Your Tasks Database

To create a recurring task template, you'll first need to navigate to your Tasks database in Notion. This is where you'll create and manage your templates.

Step 2: Create a New Database Template

Once you're in your Tasks database, click the blue "New" button menu in the top-right corner of the screen to create a new database template.

Step 3: Give the Template a Name and Choose an Icon

Give your template a name and choose an icon to represent it. You can also add any other details you want to populate with each new template, such as a description or due date.

Step 4: Set Up the Recurring Task Settings

After you've created your template, click out of it and head back into the blue "New" menu. Locate your new template and click the three-dot menu next to it. From here, select "Repeat" to open the recurring task settings.

In the "Repeat" menu, you can specify how often you want the template to be spawned. You can choose daily, weekly, or monthly intervals, as well as specify the time and day of the week you want the task to be created.

Step 5: Use the Recurring Task Template

Once you've set up your recurring task template, the last step is to actually create an item in your database using the template. To do this, go to any empty item in your database and select the template button. This will spawn a new task using the template you created, and it will be automatically generated at the specified time and on the specified days.

And that's it! Your recurring task is now set up and ready to go. By using templates in Notion, you can save time on repetitive tasks and focus on the work that really matters. Happy automating!
