Add Columns To Notion Board View: Quick Tutorial (2024)

Kanban Boards
January 1, 2024

In Notion, you can use a board view to organize tasks and projects in a Kanban style layout. One useful feature of board views is the ability to add columns, which allow you to categorize tasks based on a specific property or criteria. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to add columns to your board view in Notion.

How To Add Columns  In Notion Board View

  1. Navigate to your kanban board view in Notion or create a new one.
  2. Scroll all the way to the right end of the board view and click the '+' icon.
  3. Enter a name for your new column in the "New group" field.
  4. Click the "Done" button to add the new column to your board view.
  5. Drag and drop tasks into the appropriate column to categorize them.

Step 1: Navigate to (or create) your kanban board view

To begin, navigate to your kanban board view in Notion. If you don't have a board view yet, you can create one by clicking the "+" button at the top of your database view, selecting your database source and selecting 'Board' as your layout.

Step 2: Scroll all the way to the right side of your kanban board, then hit the '+' icon

Once you're on your board view, scroll all the way to the right side of the screen. You should see a '+' icon at the top of your columns. Click this icon to add a new group to your board view.

Step 3: Give your new group a name (this will be a new value for the property you are grouping by)

In the "Name your group" field, enter a name for your new column. This will be the name of the column and will also be a new value for the property you are grouping by.

Step 4: And that's it! You'll now have a new column on your board to drag items into

After you've entered a name for your new group, click the "Done" button to add the group to your board view. You should now see a new column on your board view that you can use to organize your tasks. Simply drag and drop tasks into the appropriate column to categorize them.
