How to Choose Your 'Open On Startup' Notion Page (2024 Guide)

Settings
January 1, 2024

Customizing your startup page on Notion can help streamline your workflow and make sure you always start where you need to. The 'Open On Startup' option allows you to select which page appears when you open the Notion app. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it.

Step 1: Click on 'Settings' in your left Notion sidebar menu

To get started, open your Notion workspace. On your left sidebar, you'll find the 'Settings & members' option. Click on it to open the settings menu. This sidebar contains all the settings related to your Notion account and workspace.

Step 2: Click 'My notifications and settings'

In the settings menu, find and click on the option 'My notifications & settings'. This option is where you can customize your personal settings, including notification preferences, appearance settings, and startup page.

Step 3: Scroll down to 'My settings' and find 'Open on start'

Once you've clicked on 'My notifications & settings', you'll see a variety of customization options. Scroll down until you find 'My settings', under which you will see the 'Open on start' option.

Step 4: Select 'Last visited page' and choose from the options: 'Last visited page' or 'Top page in sidebar'

Under 'Open on start', you will have two options to select from: 'Last visited page' and 'Top page in sidebar'. Selecting 'Last visited page' will make Notion remember the last page you were on when you closed the app, and it will open on that page next time. On the other hand, choosing 'Top page in sidebar' will make Notion always open on the first page in your sidebar.

Step 5: If you want to always open on a specific page, switch to 'Top page in sidebar' and move your desired page to the top of your private pages in Notion

If you prefer to always open Notion on a specific page regardless of where you last left off, switch the 'Open on start' setting to 'Top page in sidebar'. Then, you'll need to move your desired page to the top of your sidebar. To do this, simply click and drag the page to the top of your private pages list in your sidebar. Now, each time you open Notion, it will always start on this page.

By customizing your 'Open On Startup' page, you can make Notion work better for your workflow, always starting on the page that matters most to you.

How do I change the page Notion opens on?

To change the page Notion opens on when you start the app, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Notion workspace. Click on 'Settings & members' in your left sidebar.
  2. In the new window that appears, click on 'My notifications & settings'.
  3. Scroll down to 'My settings' and find the 'Open on start' section.
  4. Here, you can select either 'Last visited page' or 'Top page in sidebar'. 'Last visited page' will make Notion open on the last page you were viewing before you closed the app. 'Top page in sidebar' will make Notion always open on the first page listed in your sidebar.
  5. If you want Notion to always open on a specific page, select 'Top page in sidebar', then go back to your workspace and drag your preferred page to the top of your sidebar.

Remember, the 'Open on start' option is a personal preference setting. It does not affect the settings of other members in a shared workspace.
